- Determine your preference for session location. We offer sessions in your home, at facilities in the community, via telehealth, and at our clinic in South Minneapolis (3754 Pleasant Ave S. #227W Minneapolis, MN 55409).
- Complete our New Client Questionnaire, which will provide us with more information about the individual interested in services, funding, and scheduling preferences.
- We will communicate with you about scheduling options and connect you with a therapist on our team.
- We will send you the Policies and Consent form to electronically sign before your first session.
- Once all Start-Up Documentation is Complete, you may begin ongoing sessions with your music therapist!
What to Expect at the First Session: The focus of the first music therapy session is to learn about each other and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. We may explore music, play, or talk during this first session. This is an opportunity to share about your strengths, musical preferences, and areas for growth. We can also talk through any questions you may have about music therapy services and our music therapy team. The first session is facilitated based on the instruments and/or songs the client is drawn to, and is explorative in nature. Sometimes we have individuals jump in, wanting to try all of the instruments, and other times we have individuals who start out by observing, and may engage more passively in this new environment. All levels of engagement are welcomed, accepted and nurtured in this beginning stage of building a relationship with the therapist.
The first few sessions will be focused on building a trusting relationship as the client becomes comfortable with the music therapist. Then a formal assessment will take place and goals will be identified. We always welcome input from caregivers and treatment team members.
